TO PURCHASE

Nutcracker Sweets is an arrangement for soloist of five of the most popular movements from Tchaikovsky’s beloved Nutcracker Ballet Suite. The movements included are: Overture, Waltz of the Flowers, March, Arabian Dance, and Trepak. After a brief introduction, the dances are presented, one-by-one, with brief transitional passages linking all together to form a continuous, but not disjointed, whole. If one wishes, these transitions can be omitted, and any of the five sections of the piece may be performed separately*. Yet another performance option is to begin at the start of Waltz of the Flowers, or any of the subsequent dances, and play through as written to the end.

Dr. Corwell originally conceived the work as a solo with concert band, and in 2016 he created a version for brass band accompaniment. A piano accompanied version has also been created so that those without an ensemble at their disposal may also perform the piece. All three versions are now available for purchase.

*If you would like to select different movements to perform independently, the following are your start and ending points:
Overture: Bar 17 to 56
Waltz: Bar 88 to downbeat of Bar 187
(or, optionally, Bar 69 to downbeat of 187)
March: Bar 191 to 246
Arabian Dance: Bar 153 to downbeat of 334
Trepak: Bar 340 to the end.
