Different instruments are used for each variation (euphonium, trombone, baritone horn, double-bell euphonium) and Finale always performed using just one finger and a special glove.

Carnival of Venice – Herbert L. Clarke version
Double-bell euphonium used for central variation, just one finger and special glove used for finale, and a flashy extensive original cadenza is inserted before the final coda.

An arrangement of the famous melody, which has been re-worked by Dr. Corwell into a humorous double-bell euphonium solo.

Dandy Noodles – by Neal Corwell
Variations on “Yankee Doodle”, to include a tongue-in-cheek “blues” variation and parodies of other tunes. The opening may optionally be played on a homemade instrument, a plunger mute is used for “blues” variation for humorous effect, and the finale is performed “one-finger” style with special glove.

Fun variations on old Irish tune. Lots of multiple tonguing, fast runs and so forth.

Fantasie Originale – by Picchi/Mantia/arr. Corwell
Variations on a few romantic era melodies that are humorous in character (if presented properly by soloist) and followed by fast & furious variations with some extremely fast runs and many rapid leaps between extreme high and low registers.

A fun musical adventure making use of popular orchestral themes by several famous Russian composers.

Scherzo – by Neal Corwell
This “little joke” is a parody of the theme from Bonanza in the style of flight of the Bumble Bee. Duo cadenza with bassoon (or string bass in orchestral version) before the final coda (which may optionally be omitted.) A lot of double-tonguing and fast runs for soloist, with some humorous orchestration twists for ensemble.

Virgin de la Macarena – arr. Mendez/Koff
This brash and dramatic solo, like the “Gypsy Melodies”, is not humorous per se, but could could be classed as “light fare” because it is such fun to listen to a performance of it!
